Local Bluetooth Network

Friends I Introduced To Bluetooth

bluetooth network

What is a bluetooth network?
 > Bluetooth is a wireless communication standard which is usually limited to short range and low power applications(Exa:- used by handhelds, cellphones, etc to communicate with laptops, other devices of their own kind, etc.)

What are we going to do here?
> We are going to setup a local bluetooth network between a laptop and a personal computer. Such a network has uses similar to a LAN - you can transfer files between the machines, share an internet connection, etc.
You can also use bluetooth to connect a computer and a mobile device and share your GPRS internet on the computer

What will you need?
> 2 bluetooth enabled machines, with their drivers setup.
Here we use a laptop with inbuilt bluetooth support(win vista, client) and a desktop with a bluetooth dongle(win xp pro, host).

++++++++++++++++The Process+++++++++++++++++
Check if your bluetooth dongle is being recognized properly, and has the proper drivers installed. My XP pro. didn't have the required drivers, so I used the ones from broadcom. We are using the Desktop as the HOST and the Laptop as the CLIENT.
1. Turn on your bluetooth adapters on both computers. Make them in discoverable mode.
This can be done by going to Bluetooth Devices Settings>Options>check make the device discoverable.
2. Add each device to the other's Bluetooth Devices list. This can be done in the Bluetooth Devices Dialog>Devices tab>Add>Follow onscreen steps. Remember, the devices must be discoverable and on.3. Now you need to setup a network connection between the two computers.
Since we use the laptop as a client, we setup a connection in the laptop to connect to the host and setup the host to allow the connection.
On vista, you can create a connection by
-Choosing "Setup a connection or network" in the Network and Sharing Center side pane. Choose "Bluetooth Personal Area Network(PAN)."
-A dialog will search for all devices that support PAN. You might have to add your desktop to the list shown in the dialog.
-Once your desktop is listed in the PAN Available list, click on Connect.
By this time, a network connection has been created and is querying the host(the desktop) to allow the connection. You must allow the connection on the host for the connection to be successful.

4. A bluetooth connection has been established between your desktop and laptop. Now to setup a shareable internet.
5. On the host i.e. the desktop, goto Network Connections(win xp) and open Properties dialog for the connection you use to connect to the internet. If you use bridged mode, use the dialing in connection's properties. If you connect directly via ethernet, use the corresponding LAN connection's properties.
6. In properties, Click on Sharing tab(or something similar) and check "Allow this connection to be shared". Apply the settings.
7. At this time, you should have a working internet connection on your laptop wirelessly sharing through the desktop. Make sure you are within bluetooth's range(just be within 3-4 meters of the host).

At this point, following the same procedure, I couldn't open any websites and I was within the range of my Desktop. I could ping between the desktop and laptop properly. This deemed the bluetooth connectivity was fine. Something's wrong with the internet. I tried pinging 208.67.222.222. Again, a fine ping resulted(~310 ms). Hmm. internet connectivity is fine too. Try ping yahoo.com.
Couldn't resolve the domain name.
You must setup your DNS properly in the client's connection properties, and the IP configuration as well.As far as I know, bluetooth won't use a DHCP(the desky won't provide any such service under normal situations) so setup any intelligent IP address, and choose the DNS that your ISP provides or just use 208.67.222.222
Restart your connections.
